Knocking heads in NorCalFed
Willows hosts six-team youth football jamboree
Six teams of the NorCalFed put quite a pounding on the turf at the Willows High game field and practice field Saturday, as the teams went head-to-head in a youth football jamboree.
The squads from Corning, Orland, Willows, Anderson, Central Valley and Yreka all faced each other in scrimmages held simultaneously on both ends of the fields, with each team's offensive unit getting the same time limit to try out its plays.
Scores were not kept, and there was more than one playful water fight on the sidelines as teams eagerly awaited their turn on the gridiron. But the hits were loud, hard and sometimes punishing, and on Saturday they count, as the regular season gets underway.
The Corning Lions host the Chico Jaguars, and Orland's Aztecs and Willows' Coyotes square off in Willows.
