Sunny end for Lady Braves against Willows
Three-run Hamilton sixth turns tables
Willows High pitcher Brianna Brothers locked up in pitcher's duel with Hamilton's Emily Stokes for five innings Wednesday, but then the sun set on the Willows softball team.
It had not exactly set in the sixth inning when a fly ball got lost in its bright glare, igniting a three-run Hamilton rally as the visiting Braves went home with a 5-2 triumph in Willows.
Brothers had held the Braves to just one hit through five, but the sun-ball, along with a pair of hits and two Willows miscues, turned a 2-1 lead into a 4-2 disadvantage.
Stokes limited the Honkers to just two hits, one each by Brittany Ramsey and Ashley Love, and set down 15 batters via strikeouts. In just 20 innings pitched this season, Stokes has fanned 47.
Willows tallied its runs on a bases-loaded walk to Brothers, and Kellie Felkins' run-scoring fielder's choice.
Just three of Hamilton's runs were earned against Brothers, who allowed five hits while fanning six, and issued five bases on balls.
Hanna Daley swung the big bat for the Braves, delivering a pair of doubles and driving home a run in three trips to the plate, and Sonia Leal plated three with a pair of singles. Jessekah McCorkle and Katie Gordon both singled as well.
