Lady Trojans show off leather at Durham

Defense stops everything in sight for opening win

The Lady Trojans put all the pieces into place Thursday in their season-opening softball game at Durham, and the pieces complimented each other perfectly in a 10-3 win over the host Trojans.

Junior pitcher Jessica Bonesio threw five strong innings for Orland, allowing just two hits and a run, while striking out one and walking four.

Heather Oakley, also a junior, came on for the final two frames to close it out, giving up a pair of runs on three hits, while fanning three.

With just four Durham batters being sat down with strikeouts, the ball was put into play frequently, but Orland's defense put up a sterling effort by playing error-free ball.

The Lady Trojans scored their runs in bunches, putting up 4-spots in the second and fourth innings, before adding single runs in the fifth and seventh.

Oakley swung the hot aluminum for Orland, going 5-for-5 with 3 RBI's, while also coming across the plate four times. Tabby Kendrick delivered a 2-run double, and Christina Shannon plated a pair with a single.

The 1-0 Trojans hosted I-5 neighbors Corning Tuesday, and welcome Lassen to town Thursday.
