Trojans on track in Granite Bay
The Orland High boys and girls track teams competed in the Bob King-Don Gilbert Invitational track meet in Granite Bay on Saturday in a very competitive field, which featured 24 boys teams and 20 in the girls competition.
As a team, the Trojan boys finished 15th with 14 points. The winning team was from Rocklin, with 50.
Javone Bradford leapt to a gold-medal showing in the long jump, landing at 20 feet, 9 inches. He also finished fourth in the triple jump at 42-5, with the winning distance being 44-04 by Folsom's Douglas Vernon-Scott.
In addition, his 12.16 in the 100 meters was 14th-best, with the time to beat set by Jesuit's Austin Mitsch at 11.22.
The Lady Trojans finished in a 14th-place tie with eight points, with the winner being Monterey Trail, with 91.
Yanet Munoz clocked the 110 in 13.82 (8th) and teammate Gelsey Quiros in 14.07 (15th). Breaking the tape the fastest was Bear River's Kendal Nielsen (13:05).
Sierra Walker ran the 200 in 29.29 (19th), with the top time turned in by Monterey Trail's Esther Higgwe in 25.78.
Bailey Moss cleared the 100 hurdles in an eighth-best 17.62. The winner was Oak Ridge's Shannon Trumbull (15.44). She also turned in a bronze performance in the 300 hurdles, with her 47.83 very close to winner Ciara Levy's (Monterey Trail) 45.58.
Still in the running events, the 4x100 relay team of Moss, Munoz, Quiros and Iovanna Salinas ran a 52.95 for fifth place. Montery Trail took the top spot in 49.24.
Becky Ramirez's 14-2 in the long jump was good for 14th, with the winner being Bear River's Nielsen. She also finished seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 31-3.5. Taking the top spot was Montery Trail's Rachel Gardner (33-6.)
