Lady Trojans get their kicks at Sutter
The Orland High girls soccer team tied with soccer juggernaut Sutter 3-3 on Thursday, the first time in 10 years that a team has scored more than one goal on Sutter in BVL action.
Lady Trojan Karla Valverde was the first to score, hitting a 25-yard free kick. Valverde would hammer in a 27-yard free kick before the end of the half, giving Orland the 2-1 lead over the home team.
Sutter caught up after the half, and added one more goal to take the lead away from the Trojans. Orland's Rosa Garcia found the back of the net later in the second half off an assist from Marlene Guiterrez to force the stalemate.
Midfielders Angelica Moralez and Vanna Salinas, and defenders Nohely Ramirez, Gricelda Caulderon and Brenda Bravo were cited by Orland coach Tim Milhorn for their outstanding play.
Milhorn praised the total team effort, saying, " This team has heart, desire, and hustle."
The Trojans hosted league rivals Gridley at home Tuesday, hoping to further improve on their dominating 10-4-2 (5-1-1 BVL) record.
