Cats bounce back, whip Chico Red
Just two days after seeing their 16-game winning streak come to an end in the championship game of the Shasta Lake Bass tournament to Chico Suns Red, the Colusa Cats blasted the Chico squad in a doubleheader on Tuesday to raise their overall record to 24-5.
The Cats banged out 14 hits in the first game to win 14-2 in five innings. Jake Driver got the win, giving up two runs on five hits with six strikeouts and just one walk.
Colusa put together a seven-run rally in the second inning and another in the fifth to account for all of the runs.
Tyler Wells had a big game, going 4-for-4 with two runs scored. Cody Hansen added a two-run single and finished with three RBI in the game. Jeremy Hubbard also added a two-run double.
Memo Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored while Sean Rawlin drove in a pair of runs. James Bowen was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI while Josh Embree singled home a run. Brandon Rader also added a basehit while Hayden Meyers had the team’s best hit with a solo home run in the second inning.
In the second game, Colusa got a strong pitching effort from Embree, Hubbard, Wells and Bowen to win 10-2. Embree started and went two innings, giving up one hit. Hubbard pitched one frame and gave up two runs while Wells went three scoreless innings. Bowen pitched the final inning and did not give up a run or a hit.
The offense punched out 14 hits again with Ottie Harris going 4-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Meyers added two hits and two RBI while Rader was 1-for-3 with two RBI. Bowen, Rodriguez, Wells, Darren Swearinger, Driver, Hubbard and Brian Wunsch each had a basehit.
Colusa is scheduled to play two games at Corning tonight against the Westside Braves.
