Lady Trojans wallop Wheatland

The reigning Butte View League tennis champions opened the regular and league seasons Thursday, and the Lady Trojans showed that they like the view from the top of the pile, vanquishing visiting Wheatland 9-0.

Sophie Wackerman started things off with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Alec Tiffany on the ace court, and Erica Vaquera kept it rolling with a two-set, 6-3, 6-0 triumph over Thea Kaiser on Court 2.

Taylor Goings - playing in the third slot - passes a tough test with Kelly Leiva, outlasting her 2-6, 7-6 (7-3), 7-5.

Hers was the only match that required more than two sets, as Berenice Medina (6-0, 6-2), Stacey Ramirez (6-1, 6-1) and Cassandra Carper (6-1, 6-2) won in straight sets, respectively, over Kailigh Huelett, Jaime Borrego and Frances Ries.

Orland also breezed through doubles play, with Wackerman/Goings posting an 8-0 win; Vaquera/Ramirez stopping their opponents 8-3; and Carper teaming up with Lauren Ferry to come out on top 8-1.

Orland travels to Colusa Tuesday, and returns home Thursday to host Live Oak.
