Sports Roundup: Basketball, soccer results

Varsity Boys Basketball

Princeton 56, Providence 35

Princeton's Jared Mascadri hit for 17 points and Chad Zoller pitched in with 12 as the Lions fell to 2-15 on the year and 1-5 in the Pioneer-Valley League.

Providence traveled to Elk Creek on Friday, and closes the season at home Tuesday, when they host Redding Adventist.

Girls Soccer 

Orland 4, Oroville 0

The Orland High girls soccer team traveled to Oroville on Tuesday afternoon and came home with the win in BVL play.

Mireya Lopez racked up two goals while teammates Marlene Gutierrez and Angelica Moralez each grabbed one. Gricelda Claderon, Nohely Ramirez, and Brenda Bravo all played solid defense in the win, according to coach Tim Milhorn, while keeper Esme Esquivel nabbed her eighth shutout of the season. 

The Trojans (15-5-2 overall, 9-2-1 BVL) hosted Wheatland on Thursday in their last regular season outing.

Durham 3, Hamilton 1

Anjelica Gonzalez hammered in the lone goal for the Hamilton High school girls soccer team, during Tuesday's 3-1 non-league loss on the road to Durham.

The Lady Braves concluded their season on Thursday afternoon hosting Colusa.

Boys Soccer

Orland 6, Oroville 0

The Orland High school boys soccer team bested Oroville on the road Tuesday. 

The Trojans (18-1-1 overall, 11-0 BVL) hosted the Wheatland Pirates on Thursday to clinch the BVL title. 

Durham 5, Hamilton 4

The Hamilton High boys soccer team narrowly lost to host Durham on Tuesday, falling 5-4 in non-league play. 

Luis Garcia scored three goals for his side during the loss, while Brave Jonathan Cespedes scored one. Goalie Samuel Diaz racked up seven saves during the game. 

The Braves hosted Durham on Thursday afternoon in league play, concluding their regular season action. 

JV Girls Basketball

Orland 77, Gridley 42

Orland 35, Wheatland 30

The junior-varsity Lady Trojans earned themselves a pair of wins in their two most recent outings.

At home against Gridley, Jenna Miller came within an eyelash of a triple-double by leading the scoring charge with 15 points, blocking a whopping 13 shots and hauling down nine rebounds.

Taylor Matousek was also in the same neighborhood, scoring 12 points, commanding 10 rebounds and making six steals.

In the overtime win at Wheatland, Sara Gallegos stepped up with 11 points and 16 boards for her own double-double, and Miller pitched in with 10 points and blocked eight shots.
