Lions tamed by Redding Adventist

Providence Christian High celebrated Senior Night in Orland on Thursday, but visiting Redding Adventist kept the celebrating to a minimum by defeating the Lions 59-32 in the girls contest, and besting the boys 44-35.

Not only did Providence recognize its seniors - Elizabeth Anderson, Seth Danley, Tucker Hoffman and Jacob Skelton - but they also presented balloons to the seniors playing for the Lumberjacks.

In the girls contest, the visitors stormed out to a 19-4 lead after the opening quarter and held the Lady Lions to single digits in the second and third period, before Providence finished strong with 12 fourth-quarter points.

Margo Moore, the Lumberjacks 6-foot-1 junior center, was a force in the paint, scoring 21 points and grabbing 20 rebounds. Joanie Wade followed with 12 points and Rachel Dunbar added 10.

Freshman Kayla Tuma provided a glimpse into Providence's future with a career-high 17 points, and also led the Lions with eight rebounds. Mandy Edmondson supplied nine points and Mikala Baugher helped out with six boards.

Providence fell to 3-13 on the season and 2-6 in the Pioneer-Valley League.

The boys game was 17-13 in the Lion's favor at halftime, but Christian Rice hit three 3-pointers and scored 13 of his team-high 17 points in the 23-8 third quarter.

Matthew Reese accounted for 15 of the Lions' points, Danley added 13 and Hoffman, 11.

Hoffman and Danley both earned double-doubles with 12 and 10 rebounds, respectively.

The Lions began the week with an overall record of 7-13, and were 4-5 in the PVL.

Providence played at Paradise Adventist on Tuesday.
