Varsity Boys Basketball
Redding Adventist 59, Providence 37
The Lions were unable to slow down Redding Adventist's Andrew Pennington, who torched them for 28 points in Redding on Thursday.
Tomas Beaver was high man for the Lions with 17 points, followed by Matthew Reese (9) and Seth Danley (8).
Beaver also grabbed team-rebounding honors with nine boards, while Danley collected seven.
Zach Tierce pitched in with 12 points for the Lumberjacks, and Christian Rice added 10.
Providence (2-14, 1-4 PVL) hosted Princeton Tuesday, and plays Friday at Elk Creek.
Hamilton 58, Portola 36
The Braves were victorious on Friday when Hamilton traveled to Portola.
Ricky Alvarez led the Braves scoring effort, racking up 12 points, while Briley Fumasi tacked on 10 and Shea Shull, nine. Jacob Jacobo and Leland Prior followed their teammates with six points each.
Hamilton (12-9, 3-0 MVL-North) hosts Williams tonight and plays in Quincy Friday.
Varsity Girls Basketball
Hamilton 64, Portola 36
The Lady Braves won in traditional dominating fashion on Friday night at home.
Audra Jones set a new season high with 24 points to pace the Hamilton offense, with Aubrey Bekendam on her heels with 21. Itzel Duran narrowly missed becoming the third Braves in double figures when she scored nine points.
Jones and Bekendam both pulled down 10 rebounds to finish off their double-doubles, while Jones swatted away four shots and Bekendam hustled her way to six steals.
Hamilton (21-0, 3-0 MVL-North) hosted Williams Tuesday, and plays at Quincy Friday.
Girls Soccer
Orland 2, Willows 1
The Lady Trojans got the win on Friday afternoon, when they hosted Willows.
The Trojans scored the first two goals of the game, with the first hitting the net in the 23rd minute and the second coming from the Orland side landing in the 33rd. Yaneth Munoz and Alejandra Valdivia scored Orland's goals.
A hand-ball penalty on Orland gave Willows an opportunity to score, and the Honkers did so, when striker Adriana Flores nailed one in past the keeper to make the score 2-1.
Willows' stopper Jessica Mendiola had an outstanding game, and played excellent defense against a high scoring Orland team.
The Honkers (3-10-3, 2-1-2 SVL) faced off against Live Oak at home Tuesday.
Orland (13-5-2, 7-2-1 BVL) traveled to Oroville Tuesday.
Williams 3, Hamilton 1
The Lady Braves suffered a loss at home on Friday.
Hamilton's Angelica Gonzalez hit the back of the net for the Braves during the loss.
Hamilton (0-8-2, 0-4-1) traveled to Durham on Tuesday, and hosts Colusa Thursday.
JV Boys Basketball
Orland 76, Gridley 67
The Orland High junior-varsity boys needed overtime for the Friday at Gridley.
Garrett Fererria sizzled for 27 points, Andre Martinez tallied 17 and Tyler Batchelder had 14 during the matchup.
Tyler Batchelder was the leader in assists with eight, while teammate Andy Tune dished for four.
Martinez was at the right place at the right time often, grabbing a total of 20 rebounds, followed by Fererria, who nabbed 10, and Levy Williams who got to six.
Batchelder also made six steals.
Youth Wrestling
Jr. Trojans "Battle for Victory"
The Orland Jr. Trojans wrestling team hit the mats over the weekend at the Battle for Victory tournament at West Valley High in Cottonwood.
Coming home with first-place wins were Aron Punzo (66 lbs.), Ricky Landeros (70), Austin James (95), Sergio Parra (135), Christian Pyle (142) and Carlos Martincez (153).
"We had our best team performance of the season," said Orland coach John Orsua, "with two major upsets coming from Austin James and Carlos Martinez, who both picked up pins in the finals over the top-rated kids in the section in their weight class."
Yonathon Esquivel (95) and Logan O'Riley (103) both took third, while Steven Abbott (128) and Abel Zarco (142) placed fourth.
