Orland no match for Modesto Christian

Sailsbery locked in for seven 3-pointers

Apparently they know a little something about shooting the rock down in Modesto.

The Orland High boys basketball team did everything it could Tuesday, blazing its way to a season-high 79 points, but even that was not enough to cool a red-hot Modesto Christian shot that not only shot often, but effectively to defeat the Trojans 104-79 in Modesto. That contest was a first-round game in the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) state playoffs.

Orland's Jud Sailsbery was unstoppable from 3-point range, sinking a season-high seven in nine attempts in his 25-point outing. He also fought for 10 rebounds, to double-double with Stephen Batchelder, who finished with 18 points and a team-best 15 boards.

Jose Huerta also reached double figures with 14 points. Ethan Schmeltzer pitched in with eight and Michael Coleman added seven.

Orland made good on 30-of-75 shot attempts from the floor (40 percent), while going just 12-of-29 from the line.

Modesto Christian statistics were not available before press time.

Orland finished the season 20-10.
