Orland High's Angelica Moralez (3) gets a shot off despite the slide-tackle attempted by Corning's Cassie Ramirez (24). Moralez scored on the attempt and added another goal in the Trojans' 5-2 home win Tuesday over the Cardinals.

Lady Trojans out-kick Cardinals

The Orland and Corning High girls soccer teams kicked off their seasons on dry turf on Tuesday in Orland.

Yaneth Munoz and Angelica Moralez both booted a pair of goals for the Lady Trojans, and Johana Guzman tacked on an insurance goal for a 5-3 win over the visiting Cardinals.

Pressure from the Orland offense resulted in a 2-0 early lead in the first half as Munoz lifted a shot off her right foot up and over Corning keeper Alexsis Saavedra, and Moralez scored for a two-goal advantage.

Corning's Jessica Beckley then found herself behind Orland goalie Clarisa Esquivel and buried what was essentially an empty-netter to cut the lead in half.

Moralez scored her second from just inside the box and straight-on, and Munoz went to the low-left to make it 4-1 at the intermission.

Caitlin McCoy scored the first of two second-half goals when she found herself unmarked in front of the Trojans' net, but Guzman finished off a breakaway to make it 5-2, before McCoy converted a PK called when the Trojans were called for a hand-ball inside the box.

Orland (1-0) welcomed Lassen to town on Wednesday, while Corning (0-1) headed to Oroville on Thursday.
