Trojans pin down 4th straight BVL crown
Orland High's dominance of wrestling in the Butte View League was further strengthened again in Sutter on Saturday, as the Trojans took their fourth-straight league championship, and their 26th title overall.
Orland wrestlers either finished first or second in 12 of the 14 weight divisions to accumulate 208.5 points for the team title. Second-place Sutter finished with 181, followed by Wheatland (93), Gridley (72) and Winters (9).
"I'm very happy with how our kids wrestled. They are peaking at the right time of the year and it was a total team effort," said Orland coach Victory Perry.
Earning coveted All-League patches by winning in their weight classes were Hugo Punzo (106 pounds), Taylor Enck (126), Lorenzo Landeros (145), Dustin Smith (16), Dylan Hill (182) and Victor Raigoza (220).
Second-place winners included Austin James (113), Q.P. Hill (120), Cruz Ayala (132), Tyler Embrey (138), Mitchell McClough (170) and Ben Howard (195).
Lane Williams (152) and Carlos Gomes (285) posted bronze-medal finishes.
The Trojans return to Sutter on Saturday for the Middle School Section championships.
