Hamilton holds off Williams, Liberty
Hamilton had its hands full this week a couple of times, but
in both contests did what needed to be done to emerge victorious over Liberty
52-48 Monday, and 71-67 over Williams Tuesday.
Aubrey Bekendam mirrored her 14 points with the same number
of rebounds Monday to double-double against the Lady Patriots, with Devoney
Platt pitching in with 12 points and Tessa Bekendam, 11.
In a seesaw affair at home Tuesday, Hamilton led 23-19 after
the first period; Williams took a 37-35 halftime lead; added to it to go up
55-50 after three; but Hamilton found its fourth gear in the fourth period to
post the comeback win.
The Lady Jackets Allie Koualczuk led all scorers with 28
points, and was followed on the Williams side by Abby Cranford's 19 and Tori
Hibsch's 14. Cranford also had nine big assists.
Aubrey and Platt each double-doubled in the Williams game,
with Aubrey collecting 24 points and 14 boards, and Platt scored 15 while
pulling down 15 rebounds. Tessa added 18 points.
Hamilton (16-3, 3-0) hosted East Nicolaus (13-6, 3-0)
Thursday and visits Esparto Tuesday.
The Lady Yellowjackets (7-9, 1-2) tangled at Biggs (5-14,
1-2) Thursday, and turn the lights on for Los Molinos Tuesday.
Corning shuts down Central Valley
The Corning varsity girls
basketball team clung to a one-point lead going into the fourth quarter after
being outscored by 10 in the third, but the Lady Cardinals pulled it together
down the stretch to plunder Central Valley by a score of 63-53 Tuesday night.
Four different Lady Cardinals
scored in double figures, making it impossible for CV to double-team a hot
shooter without leaving open someone else who was also at the top of her game.
Chante Dale and Baillie Eller
tied for the club lead with 13 points apiece, Erin Lowe scored 12 and Ashley
Heitland had 10.
Heitland was a perfect 8-for-8
in free throws and set team standards in assists (3) and steals (4). Samantha
Monroe led the club in rebounding with six boards.
Janette Landa also scored eight
points and the Lady Cards managed to cut their turnovers to 11, down from 18
committed last Friday against a weaker team.
Corning handed CV its first
league loss, and in doing so the Lady Cards won their sixth straight game. The
only team left in league that Corning hasn't met is West Valley, also 3-1 in
NAL play, who lost to CV by 10 a few days ago.
The Lady Cards (4-0 NAL, 13-4)
host West Valley on Friday to open a three-game homestand, and end the first
half of NAL action.
Los Molinos bugged by Biggs
The Los Molinos varsity girls
basketball team was outscored little-by-little every quarter Tuesday night in
Biggs, losing by a score of 41-28.
The Lady Bulldogs battled on the
road and never had the lead, but were never out of sight of it either, as Biggs
only led by six at the break and eight after three quarters.
Carolyna Salazar drilled 5-of-6
from the foul line and led LM with 11 points. Kiersten Seaman and Kirstin
Wagenfuhr also made the best of their free-throw opportunities, each going
4-for-6 to finish with eight and four points, respectively.
Los Molinos was 14-for-23 at the
line as a team, but remained winless in Mid-Valley League contests.
The Lady Bulldogs (0-3 MVL, 3-12)
hosted Esparto on Thursday and play at Williams Tuesday.
Colusa outlasts Rio Vista in OT
The Lady Redskins survived a three-point fourth quarter that
forced an overtime period and emerged with a 60-55 triumph over Rio Vista
Tuesday at home.
Meghan Foster led the way for the Colusa offense and equaled
her season-high with 19 points, Erika Avina added 17, and Caroline Meyers put
up 13.
The Lady Redskins (8-9, 1-2) play at Live Oak (5-10, 0-2)
Friday, and host Pierce Tuesday.
Pierce loses to Live Oak
Ashley Robinson scored a game-high 20 points for the Lady
Bears and Sarah Nunez added nine, according to the Appeal-Democrat, but it was
not enough to prevent Pierce from losing 50-41 in Arbuckle.
Pierce (1-10, 0-2) hosted Willows (9-8, 2-1) Thursday, and
plays at Colusa Tuesday.
Orland falls by one at Winters
The Lady Trojans led 38-35 after three periods of play
Tuesday at Winters, but the Warriors responded with a 15-11 scoring advantage
in the final quarter to prevail 50-49.
Statistical information was not available before press time.
Orland dropped to 8-10 on the season and 2-2 in league play
before playing at Las Plumas Friday night. The girls will be back on the road
Friday when they play at Wheatland.
Lady Honkers out-hustled by Durham
Willows coach Terri Moore said Willows did not come out
ready to play at home Tuesday against Durham and it proved costly, as the
Trojans handed them a 60-38 defeat.
"They (Durham) had the intensity and hustle. They kept
beating us to every ball,' said coach Moore, ‘I was expecting us to do that to
them!"
Also problematic for the Lady Honkers was early foul trouble
and not hitting a single field goal in the second quarter.
Hailie Daniels finished with 16 points, 13 rebonds and a
pair of assists to lead Willows.
"Hailie played a great second half," said the coach. "She
really tried to make up for a lackluster first half. She listened and tried to
do what we talked about at halftime."
The Honkers (9-8, 2-1) looked to get back on track Thursday
at Pierce (1-10, 0-2), and roll out the welcome mat for Rio Vista Tuesday.
Maxwell muted by Paradise Adventist
Kendall Vierra's 11 points represented the only double-digit
scoring for Maxwell as they fell to Paradise Adventist 40-30 at home Tuesday.
Laramie Vargas grabbed a team-high 11 boards for the
Panthers, who fell to 7-9, 0-3.
Next up for the Lady Panthers is a Friday home game with
Westwood (8-4, 2-2). Tuesday they travel to Hayfork.
Herlong dries up Elk Creek
There were lids on both baskets Tuesday in Elk Creek, and
the Lady Elks and Herlong played to a 2-2 stalemate after the first quarter,
but the Vikings eventually found their touch to drop Elk Creek 34-23.
Kristin Wycoff led the Lady Elks with eight points, while
Krista Swearinger, Lena Polk and Sissy Hill each scored four.
The Lady Elks were 11-6, 2-2 before a Friday home contest
with Providence. They then travel to Downieville Tuesday.
