Braves beaten in baseball opener

It was a patchwork line-up that took the home field Thursday for the Hamilton High baseball team, with other players still involved in the basketball post-season, and despite an early lead the Braves wound up falling to the Cubs from Anderson 12-2.

The Braves managed just three hits off a trio of Anderson pitchers, but one was a solo long ball off the bat of Kyle Laclaire. Cody Deitz doubled and Adolfo Diaz both singled for Hamilton's other hits.

Laclaire, Dietz, Diaz and Trevor Simmons all took turns on the hill, with Dietz absorbing the loss. Laclaire started, fanning four in three innings, with Dietz setting two more batters down via the strikeout.

Hamilton (0-1) traveled to Durham Tuesday, and is participating in the weekend's Oroville Tournament.
