Diaz's career night highlights Hamilton win
Senior goes off for 22 to help down East Nic
There was no soap-opera ending for the East Nicolaus High boys basketball team Tuesday, because, to paraphrase a popular television voiceover, "Like sands through an hourglass, so are the Diaz of our lives."
The night of his life would be more accurate, because Omar Diaz, the senior Hamilton point guard, put up a career-best 22 points at East Nicolaus, along with posting team highs in steals (5) and assists (5), helping the Braves post a 49-39 win.
Diaz connected for a team-best 57 percent from the field (8-of-14), and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Daniel Jones poured in another 14 points, and captured team-rebounding honors and a double-double with 16 boards.
Jonathan Jacobo exerted his authority for 14 rebounds, as Hamilton hit the glass for 47 total.
The win has Hamilton sitting in the Mid-Valley League driver's seat at this point, with a perfect 5-0 record, although they have not quite begun fastening the seat belt. Hamilton also improved to 15-4 overall.
The Braves stepped out for a non-league contest Thursday at Sacramento Waldorf in Fair Oaks, before resuming MVL action Friday hosting Esparto.
Next week, Hamilton plays at Los Molinos on Wednesday, and entertains Biggs Friday.
