Lady Trojans split in Anderson tourney

Orland goes 2-2 at Big League Dreams

Not even the artificial playing surface at Redding's Big League Dreams could fend off the weather over the weekend, as the Orland High softball team played in the Anderson Cub Classic.

With rain postponing several games Friday, Saturday's bracket play was determined by a blind draw.

Orland 12, Redding Christian 2

In the Trojans' first Friday contest, Heather Oakley found the gaps for a pair of triples and 4 RBI's , and Jessica Bonesio went 2-for-3, driving in three. Anastasia Gutierrez, Michelle Shelden and Christina Shannon came through with singles to help end the game after four innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Orland coach George Oakley reported Jessica Bonesio pitched four strong innings of two-hit ball.

Mt. Shasta 8, Orland 1

The Bears took full advantage of four Orland miscues in the first inning to score five runs, and Mt. Shasta hurler Kayla Spini fanned 10.

Orland actually out-hit Mt. Shasta 4-3, with Oakley picking up two more hits, and Shannon's RBI-single scoring Shelden.

Orland 14, South Fork 4

The Lady Trojans were able to cruise to a five-inning win Saturday, with the help of an 8-run second inning.

Oakley circled the bases for a home run and drove in two, but Bonesio snared the team-high by driving in four with a pair of hits. Jaskiran Grewal drove in a pair, and Karissa Leonard joined Bonesio with two hits.

Bonesio also picked up the pitching win, yielding four runs on four hits, and striking out four while walking three.

Etna 7, Orland 4

In the Saturday finale, the Trojans committed four more errors in a 7-4 loss.

Oakley continued piling up the total bases, raising her slugging percentage to 1.53 with another double, to go along with a single. Bonesio collected a pair of singles and drove in a pair.

Oakley took the loss, giving up seven runs on seven hits, fanning four.

The Lady Trojans take a 3-3 record into play Thursday in Live Oak, before playing in the weekend's tournament in Lassen.
