Orland, Willows thrive in District 47

Since California Little League District 47 maintains such an outstanding Web site, and most of the teams aren’t submitting results to the paper, I thought I’d use this space to keep you (the readers) informed about how your Orland and Willows all-star squads are doing.

By the way, the only thing we’ve heard from Colusa is the Senior Girls (congrats on your district title!) and not a peep from Corning or Central Tehama in District 1. Sorry.

Anyway, I’ll start with girls softball:

At the minor level (9-10), Orland opened up with an 18-8 thrashing of Willows, but was knocked into the loser’s bracket in an 11-0 defeat to Paradise South. Willows was eliminated by Chico Westside, 25-0, on Friday but the Orland Minors are still alive, scheduled to play Lake Oroville at Chico Westside at 6 p.m. today.

Willows’ major girls (11-12) went two-and-out, falling to rival Orland, 15-5, then Biggs/Richvale, 12-10. Orland was thumped by Paradise South, 16-3, but will battle Chico in the loser’s bracket tonight at 5:30 p.m. in Oroville.

The Orland junior girls (13-14) started with a bye, and were scheduled to play the Paradise South-Durham winner Tuesday in the second round. They are playing at Chico Eastside, and if they lost, play at 5:30 p.m. today. If they won, the next game is at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Willows’ senior girls (15-16) were scheduled to duke it out in a best-of-three series with Chico for the district title, but no information was available on that.

In the baseball world, Willows and Orland were still alive as of press time in the minor bracket.

Willows fell to El Rancho, 20-1, in the opener and was set to play Chico Eastside on Tuesday in the loser’s bracket. Orland, which lost to El Rancho 10-1, was aiming to rebound Monday night against Paradise South.

If Orland and Willows managed to win those games, they will play an All-Glenn County showdown at 6 p.m. today in Willows.

Willows triumphed over Orland in the major opener, 6-0, but lost to Durham, 16-3. Both teams were eliminated in their second game, as Willows was edged by Chico Westside, 10-9, and Orland by Chico Eastside, 14-8.

Orland’s junior boys are sitting undefeated in the championship round, with victories over Chico Westside, 7-3, and Chico Central, 16-4. They host the winner of Chico Central-Chico Eastside at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

For those teams still alive, in District 47 or elsewhere in our coverage area, get on your coaches to submit us results! Good luck!
