Colusa Cats sweep Westside in double dip
The Colusa Cats got back into action on Monday after missing a doubleheader with the Westside Braves last week due to poor air conditions.
Colusa swept both ends of Monday’s doubleheader with Westside to raise its record to 26-5 on the year. Colusa won the first game 11-1 and picked up a 6-3 victory in the second game.
In the opener, Colusa got a strong mound effort from Josh Embree, who went four innings and gave up one run on one hits with two strikeouts. Brandon Rader went scoreless, hitless frames and gave way to Tyler Wells, who pitched a scoreless, hitless seventh inning.
Meanwhile the Colusa offense scored in every inning except the second and the sixth. Rader and Hayden Meyers each drove in a run in the first inning and then did it again in the third.
Steven Perry had an RBI in the fourth and Rader added a sacrifice fly for his third RBI of the game. In the fifth, Jeremy Hubbard, Perry and Dylan DeWit all had one RBI apiece. Tyler Wells drove in the run in the seventh.
Perry was 3-for-4 for the Cats with a double while Rader and Wells were both 2-for-3. Rader and Hubbard both had doubles.
In the second game, Colusa scored two runs in the first inning, but Westside scored three times in the bottom of the frame to grab the early 3-2 lead.
However Colusa regained the lead in the second inning and never relinquished it the rest of the way.
Jake Driver went five innings for the win. He gave up three runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and just one walk. Jeremy Hubbard went two scoreless innings and did not give up a hit while striking out two.
Memo Rodriguez singled and James Bowen doubled to open the game. Rodriguez scored on a sacrifice fly by Perry and Bowen did the same on Rader’s sacrifice fly.
In the second, Dylan DeWit plated Embree and Darren Swearinger with a basehit. In the fifth, Rader doubled and scored on Meyers’ sacrifice fly.
Hubbard scored the final run in the sixth when he doubled and scored on DeWit’s basehit.
DeWit, Swearinger and Rader were all 2-for-3 in the win.
