The Orland varsity girls basketball team could not compete with Las Plumas in Oroville on Friday night, as the Lady Trojans were flattened, 59-27, while playing the Butte View League champions on the road.

Las Plumas (10-0 BVL, 19-4) galvanized its place atop the BVL throne by taking a 29-point lead at halftime. The Lady Thunderbirds, the only Division III team in the otherwise smaller Division IV league, enforced a running clock early in the fourth quarter with a 40-point advantage.

Orland did manage to outscore LP down the stretch, however, with a 3-pointer and total of five fourth-quarter points from Michelle Bradford.

Bradford, Taylor Miller and Kelsey Lohse played stringent defense to restrict LP to single-digit scoring in the fourth quarter. Bradford led Las Plumas offensively, with five points, and Lohse nabbed a team-leading seven rebounds.

Mollee Barr chipped in four points, Savanah Sandate blocked a shot on defense and teammates Melissa Rubio and Molly Sathongnoth each hit 2-of-2 foul shots.

Orland's Cecilia Silva absorbed the shock of an offensive foul committed by an aggressive LP ball-handler during the third quarter, and Bradford picked off two steals.

The Lady Thunderbirds only committed a total of nine turnovers, however. Orland exceeded that in the first quarter, with 10, and finished with 23.

Orland also shot poorly throughout the game, a 10-for-42 rate (24 percent) from the field. Meanwhile, the Lady Thunderbirds were lights-out in their own house, drilling 26-of-61 (43 percent).

During the first half, with just starters on the floor, LP's shooting accuracy soared near 60 percent. Their percentage didn't fall below 50 until two minutes were left and bench players started to trickle into the game.

LP's Stephanie Archie netted 12 of her game-high 17 points in the second quarter. Arin Cahee sunk 10 of her 14 points in the first to establish LP's dominance, and 6-foot, 1-inch post Jessica Lix ended her night with eight points, helping LP end the regular season winners of 13 straight games.

Las Plumas earned the No. 3 seed in Division III and hosts cross-town rival Oroville in Thursday's playoff opener. Orland (6-4 BVL, 15-10) is the fourth seed in Division IV and had a bye in Tuesday's opening round. The Lady Trojans host the Anderson versus Wheatland winner on Thursday.
