Student posters fill the bill
Corning High School graphic arts students recently had the opportunity to compete in a poster contest that truly tested their skills.
Teams of students in Christine Lee's class were challenged to produce a winning poster for the Corning Rotary Club's annual Wine, Food and Art Festival.
The fundraising event is held at Rolling Hills Casino and has become very popular.
Scott Chandler, Rolling Hills marketing manager, said when he talked to the students about the poster project he explained the design needed focus on a viewers ability to, at a moments glance, know the date, time, features and atmosphere of the festival.
"It was a phenomenal project and the students really came through," he said.
A team of judges selected the winning poster which is currently displayed in business and shop windows all over town.
The top winner, designed by students Oscar Avila and Jorge Bobadilla, and the second and third place posters are now on display in the front display cases in front of Rodgers Theatre on Solano Street, along with a poster describing the poster contest. Avila and Bobadilla winning design will be adapted to all other advertising for the festival, as well as the event brochure.
"I am really pleased with the outcome of the poster," said Rotarian Tony Cardenas, as he and fellow Rotarian Kyle Lauderdale put the posters up in front of the theater on Friday.
The Wine, Food and Art Festival will be held from 4-10 p.m. Feb. 24, and noon-8 p.m. Feb. 25, in the Event Center at Rolling Hills Casino. Admission is $10, with a $1 tasting fee at each booth. The event features wine and food tasting, a clam chowder competition, cooking demonstrations, olive and olive oil tasting, art show and more.
