Boy nearly killed in accident
A 13-year-old Williams boy suffered near-fatal injuries when he was "ejected" from the bed of a pickup on private property off of San Jose Road north of Highway 20 on Tuesday.
The California Highway Patrol is considering a criminal investigation, and Wednesday cited that as the reason for not releasing the name of the 19-year-old driver from Arbuckle.
The CHP said the man was driving a 2001 GMC Sierrra pickup around 6:30 p.m. with two boys unrestrained in the bed of the truck.
For unknown reasons, the CHP reported, one of the boys was ejected from the bed of the truck.
Public Affairs Officer John Waggoner said the boy sustained major head trauma when he landed in the dirt road.
He was flown to U.C. Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, where he remained Friday in critical condition, the CHP said.
The other boy, also 13, was not injured in the incident, the CHP report stated.
The boys' names were not released because of their ages, Waggoner said.
