Farmers market throws a party
Orland residents can celebrate the success of the Glenn County Certified Farmers Market with a block party this evening in the park.
The market concludes the 2010 season in Library Park today and will move on to Willows for September -ending for the year in October.
So the Orland Area Chamber of Commerce decided to host a Farmers Market Dinner and Community Block Party at 6 p.m. at the park.
"We don't want to take away from the Farmers Market managers," chamber Director Joyce Yancy said. "They did a fantastic job, and the chamber just helped promote it. We grabbed their coat tails."
That is why the chamber came up with this event, she said, that features local food products and restaurants preparing the meals.
Guests can dine on leg of lamb, pork and sturgeon supplied by local farms and companies, Yancy said. The produce also is coming from area farmers.
Farwood Bar and Grill of Orland is making the dinner and Alta Marie's Bakery is providing the desserts.
Tickets are $25 a person and will be available at the door and at businesses like Umpqua Bank, Farwood Bar and Grill, Alta Marie's, La Perla Tapatia and more prior to the event.
Children under 12 can dine in the kid's Corner for $5 where they will get a hot dog, chips and drink.
A no-host social hour begins at 5 p.m. with dinner an hour later. From 7 to 9 p.m., there will be live music by One Hundred Dollar Groom, Yancy said.
