2 men arrested while searching for thieves
Two men were arrested on drug charges Monday night while Orland police officers were looking for people reportedly trying to take license plates off parked cars at East and Shasta streets.
Glenn County sheriff's Deputy Jon Owens assisted in the search and discovered two men on bicycles coming from the area, officials said.
The men denied trying to tamper with license plates, Owens reported, but were reportedly found in possession of marijuana, the deputy said.
Arrested were Fredrick Wayne Appleby Jr., 32, of Red Bluff, and 40-year-old Jimmy Dale Ennis of Orland.
Appleby is reported to have 66.1 grams of marijuana on him, the deputy said, and was wanted on two outstanding misdemeanor warrants for his arrest out of Tehama County.
Ennis is reported to have a "hype kit" in his possession with three hypodermic needles, a broken spoon and five pills of the narcotic hydrocodone, along with a small amount of marijuana, officials said.
The deputy also seized a flashlight containing a white powder near an apartment the men said they were visiting along with a glass pipe.
Both men were booked into Glenn County Jail. Bail was set on Appleby at $50,000. The bail for Ennis is $43,000.
