Newspaper redesigned
Dear readers:
Welcome to the new-look Colusa County Sun-Herald. Today's edition ushers in design changes related to the newspaper's conversion to a narrower page size. The size of the broadsheet page is 1 inch narrower but the length of the page is unchanged. The narrower page size allows the newspaper to cut costs without jeopardizing quality.
"We trail the industry that has already established this size paper as the norm during the past two years," said Dave Schmall, Tri-County Newspapers' publisher. "And, yes, using less paper saves money and that makes good business sense."
Not content with merely "shrinking" the size of the pages, the Colusa County Sun-Herald is unveiling a redesign that offers readers a cleaner, more-organized look to the newspaper.
"Frankly, the newspaper has long been in need of a makeover," said Len La Barth, TCN's executive editor. "Some minor changes have been made the last couple of years, but the reduction in page size presented us with the opportunity to 're-imagine' our presentation."
Making the newspaper more attractive to readers as well as easier to navigate were the priorities established last fall when editors and page designers launched the redesign process.
Readers of the Amusements page will see two new features on the page: the "Mallard Fillmore" comic strip and the "Jumble" puzzle.
We'd like to know what you think about the changes. E-mail comments to llabarth@appealdemocrat.com.
