Supervisors to host open house
Glenn County supervisors have a new home set up with a mix of 1930s ambiance and 21st century technology, and they will show it off Tuesday in an open house for the public.
People may stop by the Willows Memorial Hall from 2-4 p.m. for the event, which showcases the board's chambers, the county administration office and the supervisors' offices on the second floor. It begins after the board meeting.
There will be refreshments, and people will be given tours of the new offices and those that already were there on the first floor, Deputy County Administrator Sandy Soeth said.
County Administrator David Shoemaker and his staff made the move last week, and the board conducted its first meeting in the chambers Nov. 17.
There is a lot more room than was available in the county's historic courthouse across the street where the board met for many years.
The new board room has beautiful woodwork, art deco moldings, French doors, vintage-styled ceiling lamps and refurbished theater seating.
It also has retracting computer monitors, projector screens and a public address system typical of 2009.
Also on display will be the county's personnel office, county counsel office and the veterans facilities downstairs.
"It is different," Soeth said. "We are still getting used to it, but they did a very nice job remodeling."
Supervisor Tracey Quarne said this week the new digs are very useable.
"It has a good design and good usability," he said, as he sat at the desk of his new office.
Boxes are still being unpacked and items put away, Soeth said.
However, pictures are on the walls, furniture is being put in place and lamps are getting set up, but most work should be done by Tuesday, officials said.
The old supervsiors' quarters and offices in the courthouse will go to the courts and be remodeled for their use.
