Letter: Veterans group reaches out

The AMVETS Department of California Service Foundation, serving veterans since 1945, is a nonprofit organization that is committed to helping all veterans in California, and in Reno and Las Vegas, Nev.

Our board of directors, service officers and staff are dedicated to assuring that our veterans receive the benefits due to them for their service to their country.

Our most important contribution to our veterans is through the efforts of our professional certified service officers who have committed their careers to helping veterans obtain compensation and benefits from the veteran's administration.

The AMVETS organization accepts all honorably discharged veterans who have served 90 days or more, or who are still on active duty. This includes the National Guard and Reserves, Merchant Seamen serving during WWII, and the Coast Guard, regardless of when or where they served.

Post 2002 of Corning meets at 4 p.m. the first Thursday of each month at the Veterans Memorial Hall, 1620 Solano St.

Veterans in Tehama or Glenn County are welcome to attend, and veterans wanting to start their own post in other areas may call 824-1257 for more information.
