Alexandrina Torres

A graveside service for Alexandrina Diane (Deniz) Torres is at 2 p.m. today at Willows Cemetery. She was 79.

Torres died Sept. 27, 2008, at Enloe Medical Center in Chico. The youngest of seven children, she was born March 22, 1929, in Loleta to Joe V. and Alexandrina Deniz. In 1948, she graduated from Hilmar High School, where she was active in sports including baseball. Her favorite team was the San Francisco Giants.

Torres is survived by son and daughter-in-law Chester and Donna Torres of Chico; son and daughter-in-law Bruce and Rosemarie Torres of Richmond, Va.; daughter and son-in-law Ramona and Ronnie Byrd of Saddlebrook, N.J.; sisters Velma Mendes of Oakdale, Dorothy Pinheiro of Bayliss and Lena Rose of Hilmar; brother Joe Deniz of Bayliss; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
