Back in class
I finally went back to school this week. It seems like I was out for longer than a month. However the wife is on the mend and I was getting bored so I trolled the sub-finder system and came up with a junior high art class. My granddaughter knew the teacher and it turned out her cousin was in one of the classes. For some reason this teacher started at 8:10 a.m. rather than the usual 7:20 a.m. so I slept in a little. His first period was a prep period so I used the time to study his notes. He had everything pretty much in order and on the board he wrote that I would be taking names of those who weren't cooperative. The incentive to mind the sub was also in the form of a reward for the class that did the assignment the best and didn't have any names written down. It went pretty well up until the distant relative's class showed up. It wasn't so much her, but the rest of the class that made it difficult. They were not bad, but just wanted to talk too much. In reality they were much like most junior high kids, a little rowdy. The assignment was to draw full scale a hand holding a ball. First they were to draw a rough sketch, then the lights were turned off and a spot light turned on to aide with the shading. I'm no artist, but I actually knew more than most of them about how to shade the drawing. I had fun, and I think they did too. As for the rest of the weeks ahead, I will just have to troll the sub-finder system. I did miss out on one today by hesitating long enough to find the school on the map. By the time I wanted to choose the job it was taken. I guess if you snooze you loose. I was anxious to get home as I had rented a very secure storage locker to put my 1958 Ford for the winter. I had a friend all lined up to help me roll it in and give me a ride home. However even the best plans can go belly up a the last minute. My boss from Associated Foods called when I got home and wanted me to take a random drug screen that afternoon. I could have put it off, but I still want to be able to drive for them occasionally (although I haven't driven since August). So I headed to the Work Med facility in Ogden. I already know I have trouble when it comes to filling a cup on demand. So I drank a bottle of water before I left, and a Diet Coke on the way. Then I had a regular Coke when I got there. I asked them to wait 15 minutes or so while I had yet another Coke. Finally I thought I could fill the cup and went in. I managed to make it to the minimum line and started for home. In all I had drank almost 50 ounces of liquid. So on the way home there was a traffic jam of course. Then I got caught in the commute traffic on the main road to the house. By the time I got to my street I thought I was going to burst. I ran into the house, threw open the bathroom door and, well you-know-what. Anyway all 50+ ounces of the liquid came out over the next hour or so. I really hate those tests! Luckily my friend was still able to help and we got the Ford put away. Into it's previous spot in the garage will go the 1957 Chevy I bought last winter. By late spring we should have a restored turquoise 210 or Bell Air two door post to drive around. This time I'm having someone else paint it and upholster the interior. That should cut a couple of years off the restoration time. Although it is a 210 model, I have enough Bel Air trim to spruce it up some. We did make it to Willows last Friday and had lunch at Nancy's before running an errand in Chico. It looks like they painted the place and had new menus made up. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have the story of Willows in the back. But the food was still terrific! That evening we took my son and his fianc' to dinner at Casa Ramos and it was great too. I was surprised to see a Papa Murphy's on West Wood. I'm sure Round Table doesn't like it much, but we don't have on of those here. So for me Papa Murphy's is the one. I wonder why they don't have a Round Table in Utah, they could sure use one!
