Finding out the truth about the propositions
The other day I received the special tapes for the blind issued by the State of California for the election in June of this year. And, I can tell you right now that I am very confused. The tape began by telling the listener about Proposition 99 regarding eminent domain of your real estate property. At the beginning, I sincerely thought that it was going to be a big advantage to homeowners. The State wouldn't be able to take your property for use by other individuals. Then, I kept listening. There were special times that the State could still take your property.
I listened further. Then I heard that Proposition 99 would cancel out Proposition 98 which was also a proposed law to prevent the State from taking your real property if the State wanted to do so. Then I couldn't find where Proposition 98 was on the tape. Maybe it is on the other side of the tape, but wouldn't you think that Proposition 98 should be discussed before Proposition 99? Unless it was last election's proposition. I try my darndest to read all the info that I can about elections, but this one has me buffaloed before I even get started. I always try to find out who is for or opposed to each Proposition.
This is truly a mixed bag to me. If anyone out there knows the truth about these Propositions, please call me. I own nearly an acre of land within the city limits, and I don't want the City or County deciding to use eminent domain to make me sell my property to them for any reason. I don't see anything like that in the near future, but who knows. Help, help!!
The President of the Hamilton City Women's Club called to tell me that the club is sponsoring a candidates night on Monday April 28 at 7 p.m. at the Hamilton City Elementary School. There will be 11 candidates from Supervisoral Districts Nos. 1, 3, and 5 the 2 Superiors Court Judge candidate. No State candidates will be on the speakers list. I asked Pat if there was to be any speakers to talk about the Propositions, and she said thee would not be. Guess I can't get the answers to my Propositions questions at that meeting.
Last Saturday I went with Clarice Morehouse Morrell to the Soroptimist's annual Tea Luncheon. Clarice told me that her daughter, Polly Morehouse with her husband and children were going to visit the Island of Belize to go diving. This will be Polly's 50th dive, and she will do it on her 50th birthday. Now even if I don't know where the Island of Belize is, it does sound exciting. It sounded like Polly's husband taught diving which is probably why she has already had 49 dives under her belt. I think I'll stick to the plans that y friend Linda and I have to take a ride in a hot air balloon. I'm starting to get a little cold feet about the parachute jump we also have been planning. One broken leg would probably put me in a rest home somewhere which isn't my first choicer in the world. Good luck, Polly. You're a woman after my own heart.
I don't know if I'm supposed to reveal this or not, but the Capay Rancho Women's Club members were advised by Principal Jim Scribner that the club had been chosen as the Educator of the Year by the Capay Elementary School for all of the Club's assistance to the school., Wow!! What an honor. We will be one of the honorees at the Educator's Ceremony at the Glenn County Fair on May 17.
As President of the Club I am thrilled. After the ceremony at 8 a.m. the Capay school bus we take us over to join the parade. The last fair parade that I participated in was when Linda and I rode the tandem bicycle cow about three years ago. The old bicycle cow still stands in the garage with her cow hear on top and her milk bag on the bottom. And, hey! We won first prize in the novelty group. We haven't had the gall to pull any funnies since then. Linda and I will be riding in the parade a second time with her driving the bus and the other ladies and I as passengers. Look for us.
Sounds like the reconstruction of the old Purity Store building to convert it to the Police Department is on hold for an undetermined time. Apparently the City was applying for a grant loan, but are unable to come up with between three hundred and four hundred thousand dollars for the city's share of the grant.
The total price tag for the purchase of this building is really rising. Over three hundred thousand for the building as is, over three hundred thousand for the architectural plans, and now over three hundred thousand for the grant share comes to over a million bucks. Many people have asked why the city doesn't leave the police department in the current building and move the city hall across the street to the new building. Would it be less expensive? Only the shadow knows.
Did you know that it is the carbon dioxide that you exhale that attracts mosquitoes? And, they can detect the smell from 75 feet away. Better watch out because the West Nile Virus is still around and summer is upon us.
