Patriots propose scholarship

Glenn County Patriots is working with Superintendent of Schools Tracey Quarne to establish a scholarship for Glenn County high school seniors interested in the US Constitution.

To encourage interest for the project, a four-part series of videos titled "Constitution Alive," by former Texas Congressman Rick Green will be presented at the Patriot's meetings at 6:30 p.m. on Mondays at the City Council chambers, 201 N. Lassen St., Willows.

Livestock meeting is Friday

An education program with information related to the health and management of beef cattle and pasture will be held from 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Friday at the Old 99 Steakhouse in Willows, 610 S. Tehama St., Willows.

The even is free but RSVP's are required, 527-3101.

Special guest speaker Dr. David Patterson from the University of Missouri, will speak on selection and development of replacement heifers. Other topics discussed include bull performance, de-worming, and alternative feeds for cattle. Irrigated pasture irrigation efficiency and fertility will also be discussed.

The meeting is sponsored by the Glenn, Colusa, and Tehama County Cooperative Extensions; the Cattlemen's Association in Glenn-Colusa, and Tehama Counties; Genex; and Merial and Boehringer Ingelheim.

Lunch will be provided, compliments of Merial and Boehringer Ingelheim.

Corned beef dinner set

The 22nd annual Hamilton City Lions Club corned beef and cabbage dinner, raffle, and auction will be held from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. March 9 at the Hamilton City Firehouse, 420 First St.

Tickets are $12; children 12 and under are $5.

Nursing scholarship available

Mercy Foundation North is accepting application for the Chris Lawley Memorial Scholarship for Nursing Students. This is a $1,500 annual scholarship and will be awarded to a nursing student who will be attending the second year of nursing school at a community college or a four-year college or university in the fall of 20136.

The application deadline is March 29.

Academic grant available

An academic grant of $1,000 is being offered to a woman from Tehama or Glenn County who is currently an upper division or graduate student attending an accredited college or university preparing to become a teacher.

The scholarship is offered by Beta Lambda, the local chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, a women's international education society. The society's goals are to promote the professional and personal growth of women educators and to acknowledge excellence in education.
