John Schulps' pottery is on display below Bev Woodward's quilts as part of the Orland Center of the Arts Show.

Art show features quilts, pots

Quilts and pottery are all over the Orland Center of the Arts and Gallery for its April show running through the 17th.

The walls of the gallery are covered in massive colorful quilts made by Orland quilter Bev Woodward.

They include people figures, a quilt dedicated to the United States and even one about the Oregon Trail.

Woodward is reportedly a charter member of the Orland Quilters group, according to Jane King with the Orland Arts Commission.

She began her quilting career at nine and has made about 300 quilts so far.

Her States of the Union quilt won Best of Show at the Glenn County and Tehama County fairs a few years ago, and also received an Honorable Mention at the Silver Dollar Fair in Chico, King said in a prepared statement.

Potter John Schulps also is displaying his work in the show.

His earthy looking bowls , plates and jugs are dwarfed by the quilts, but provide a charming contrast to the brightly hued fabric.

The pottery is done in muted shades of blue, green, brown and so on.

Schulps arrived in this area in 1985 and began Schulps Pottery and Knives.

He previously taught at the University of California, Los Angeles, and Pepperdine University, King said, along with Moorpark Junior College.

The gallery is in the Stony Creek Square Shopping Center, 1016 South St.

It is open 3 to 7 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, and the public is welcome to come visit for free.
