Burglaries prompt police to give warning
Authorities are warning local residents that as the weather warms up, burglaries and other thefts are expected to rise with the temperatures.
A laptop and an unknown amount of cash were reportedly taken from an unlocked Orland home on Sunday, police reported.
Orland resident Ana Quintero, 30, told police she left her home in the first block of Walker Street for several hours to run errands. When she returned , she found her laptop and cash were missing.
The money, Quintero reportedly told police, could have been misplaced, but police said an unknown number of thieves gained entry through an unlocked sliding glass door and removed the laptop, police Chief Paula Carr said Tuesday.
"She said she forgot to secure the door before leaving," Carr said.
Police were still working on obtaining a serial number for the lap top, which police said is valued at more than $500.
Unidentified items were also reported stolen form the Orland Shell gasoline station on Monday, police said.
Details on the second incident were sketchy as police worked Tuesday to identify missing property.
In a third apparently unrelated theft reported on Saturday, an unknown number of thieves entered the Sutter Homes winery in the 3000 block of County Road 27 and siphoned about $150 in gasoline from tank on the property, the Glenn County Sheriff's Office reported.
Lt. Richard Warren said sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning, thieves cut through three padlocks and siphoned the regular grade gasoline, damaging the gas pump hose in the process.
"As weather improves and money continues to run tight for everyone, we do anticipate a spike in thefts in general," Warren said. "We'll continue to do everything we can to monitor the situations, but it's always better when people report any suspicious activity immediately. That's a tremendous help, always."
Anyone with information regarding these incidents is asked to contact law enforcement.
