Letter: Support the local pool
I am writing you this letter to advise the community of an opportunity to support a public pool without waiting for assistance from taxpayers, i.e. fees, taxes, etc.
The Orland Public Pool Lifeguards for 2011 are having a fundraiser in conjunction with the Orland Recreation Department. They are hosting a BBQ and Swim Day on Sunday, July 17th from 1-pm.
Minimum cost per person is $5.
Daily we read about city pools in danger of being closed due to budget cuts. With your support we can continue to ensure that the Orland City Pool remains open to the public. If you are an individual or business that has fond memories of summertime in the water, or just understand that kids need to be outside in a safe environment and you can't join the lifeguards for the fundraiser, please consider sending a donation to the Orland Recreation Department, Attn: Joe Fenske, 1002 Hambright Ave., Orland, CA 95963. Make sure to put "Lifeguard BBQ" in the memo of your check.
I am in support of this attempt by the lifeguards, since I am the parent of two of Orland's lifeguards who are also lifelong Orland Otters. Water safety is one of the most important things to teach all children. Keep it available.
