Dine with the Historical Society

Mike Hubbartt will be the featured speaker at the 2010 luncheon meeting of the Colusi County Historical Society at noon on Saturday at the Trinity Methodist Church Friendship Hall, 511 Oak St., Colusa. Children focus of refuge firefighting event

The fire management staff at the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge will hold a number of activities, with children as the main focus, from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday and on April 17. To sign up, call 934-2801.

Give the gift of hope

The American Cancer Society's Daffodil Days fundraiser is now in the process of taking orders through Feb. 26. Delivery will be March 24 at the Orland Fire Dept. for the Orland area. Flowers are available beginning at $10 and all funds raised benefit local residents.

Daffodils , the first flowers of spring, are a symbol of hoe for cancer patients and their families. To order, call Laura Blevins at 865-3266 or Shirley Russell at 865-9555.

Donations still needed

From 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., March 1-3, and 9:30 a.m. to noon, March 4, the Orland Women's Improvement Club will accept donations for its annual rummage sale, which will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on March 5 and 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 6 at Flaherty Hall at the Glenn County Fairgrounds.

Graduate from the Police Citizens Academy

Residents of Orland and Willows interested in becoming part of Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) may sign up for the next academy scheduled to start on March 6 in Orland. The session will last six weeks, with graduation scheduled for April 17.

Participants must be at least 18, live or work in Glenn County and have no felony convictions. For more information, call Officer Sean Johnson at 865-1616 or e-mail sjohnson@cityoforland.com.

Capay women's club visiting King Tut

The Capay Rancho Women's Club is taking a bus trip to San Francisco to see the the King Tut exhibit at the De Young Museum on March 9. The price of $87 includes lunch at Sinbad's by the Ferry Building. For reservations, call Pat Ragan at 865-2615.

Donated items needed

The Orland Women's Improvement Club holds its 60th annual rummage sale on March 5-6 at the Glenn County Fairgrounds Flaherty Hall. Good clean children's clothes and toys, furniture, household items, jewelry, linens and small appliances are requested for donation. Proceeds support two Orland High School scholarships. Youth football, cheerleading sign-ups

Sign-ups for Orland Aztecs Youth Football and Cheerleading for children ages 6-14 will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. on March 17-18, and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 20 at the Pizza Factory in Orland. Please bring a copy of child's birth certificate, current wallet-sized photo and insurance information. Children 13 and 14 must present proof of being in the eighth grade.

Cost to play is $125, plus mandatory sale of 50 raffle tickets. Players who signed up at awards banquet must attend to fill out paperwork and pick up raffle tickets.
