CHP applications available
The California Highway Patrol will begin accepting applications for new officers in January, the first time in three years the agency has looked to hire.
Online applications will be accepted from Jan 3-5.
Candidates must be 20-35 years old, a US citizen, have no felony convictions and be a high school graduate. There are a variety of tests, including medical, and interviews that will follow.

Kindergarten registration set
Registration will be held Jan. 16-17 for new students who will be entering Mill Street School in August.
Children who's last names begin with the letters A-L will register from 8:30 a.m. to noon, and from 1:30-3 p.m. Jan. 16. Last names beginning M-Z will register on Jan. 17.
Children must be 5 on or before Oct. 1 to enroll.
Children with birthdays Oct. 2 through Dec. 2 may fill out a registration form for the transitional kindergarten program, contingent upon state funding.
Only parents need to attend registration, which is at the school.
Motor-Icicle Run slated
The annual Motor-Icicle Run, a pledge ride to fund a memorial for the Orland's heroes and to light the historic Orland Arch, will be held Jan. 19, 2013.
Meet at the Orland Fire Department, Fifth and Colusa streets, at 7 a.m. for a pancake breakfast, $6, followed by the ride, 8-10 a.m.
A chili feed, 50/50 and prize raffle will follow immediately after the ride.
Entry fee is $20 per rider and $5 per passenger.
Pledges are encouraged.

Snow Goose registration open
Registration is open for the 14th annual Snow Goose Festival of the Pacific Flyway, Jan. 24-27, in Chico.
Festival includes over 60 field trips and excursions; a wide variety of informative indoor workshops and presentations; a banquet featuring Chico's own Roger Lederer and Carol Burr as keynote speakers; Pacific Flyway Art Exhibit featuring wildlife and habitat artwork; as well as free events for all ages, especially kids.

Crab Feed and auction slated
The annual Willows Elks Lodge Crab Feed, Raffle and Auction will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Jan. 20 at 150 S. Shasta St., Willows.
Tickets are $35 and $15 for children 12 and under. Tickets are available from Elks members and at the Elks Lodge.
Proceeds benefit high school seniors in Glenn and Colusa counties.
