Fred J. Goings

Fred J. Goings, loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather, was entered into rest April 26, 2008.

Fred was born July 27, 1925, in Sims, CA, to Fred and Olga Goings. He was raised in the Corning area and attended country schools. In 1943 he joined the U.S. Navy and served his country in World War II. After his discharge, he worked on various farms in Glenn County He then worked for Jasper Lichtsteiner, both farming and milking cows for eight years.

Fred married LuNetta Meyer of Lytton, Iowa, on April 12, 1949, and spent the rest of his life in Orland. He began his career as a carpenter in 1954, working with brother-in-law Ernie Salvagno. He retired in 1987 and enjoyed many years of hunting, fishing and camping with his family and friends. In later years, he took great pleasure in attending the many activities of his grandchildren, who looked up to him with great love and respect.

Fred is survived by LuNetta, his wife of 59 years, and a sister, Donna Bridges. He is also survived by five children: sons Robert (Merry), Dennis, Ronald (Angel), Gary (Aleta); daughter Julie Mishoe, and grandchildren Christopher Goings (Dara), Amanda Spurling, Travis Goings, Lynette Rhodes (Andrew), Bryan, Jeffrey, and Melissa Goings, Kyle and Taylor Goings, and Timothy and Joseph Mishoe.

Graveside services are planned for 10 a.m., Friday, May 2, 2008, at Graves Cemetery in Orland. Any donations may be made to the Orland Volunteer Fire Department or a charity of your choice c/o F.D. Sweet & Son Mortuary, 825 A Street, Orland, CA 95963.
