Letter: Gay marriage not harmless
Here’s a response to your editorial favoring same-sex marriage (“Everyone should have right to wed,” Oct. 3). You stated that legal recognition does not require those who object to recognize or approve of it. If that’s true, why has the following happened?
• A San Diego doctor was sued for refusing, for religious reasons, to perform artificial insemination for a same-sex couple.
• A Catholic charity was compelled by law to place children with same-sex couples.
• A Lutheran school was sued for expelling two students with a lesbian relationship.
Same-sex marriage is not harmless. It does affect others. It does affect religious freedom.
