Helping the All-Stars twinkle
It's Little League All-Star time again, that point in the season when some parents lament that games are played over the Fourth of July weekend, and when sports reporters deal with the shear number of teams playing in the various tournaments.
I've been a step-parent of an All-Star as well as a coach, so believe me, I know it's fun to read about the young baseballers and softballers in the paper, and see their bright and sunny faces in print.
That is why we are asking for a few pinch-hitters from the tri-county area.
With just the opening-round games for the teams from our coverage area, there are 32 games over nine days, taking place in approximately 14 different areas. While we will not be able to cover at least one game from every team in person, we would be glad to report at least the scores of the games we are not at, and print photos if they are available.
It's not expected we get a blow-by-blow description of every at-bat, but if we were to receive e-mails saying "the Colusa major boys" or "the Corning 10-11 boys" won 7-5 last night at (insert location here), we would greatly appreciate the help.
Photos are also appreciated, provided you also include the information about who was playing in the game, who is in the picture, and when/where the game was played. Photos should be attached to the e-mail as a jpeg file.
In the early rounds, we will be attempting to cover as many of the local teams as possible, focusing on locations where more than one team may be playing on the same day or evening.
The game scores also help us track which teams are still playing and those that have been eliminated.
With your assistance, we hope to give as many of the All Stars as we can the recognition they deserve.
Submitting All-Star information
Scores, photos or game reports should be e-mailed to cpurcell@tcnpress.com.
Photos should include the day and location the game was played, what division the game was in, and who is involved in the action in the photo.
Due to space limitations, Tri-County Newspapers cannot guarantee all submitted photos will be used.
