Letter: Animal control chief says goodbye

This letter is my letter of resignation from the County of Glenn as a Department Head on Aug. 22, 2010.

I have served the County of Glenn for almost 34 years, which I started on Feb. 1, 1977. I have enjoyed my professional career with the Glenn County Animal Control. My first position was as a deputy animal control officer that lasted 3 1/2 years.

Then on Sept. 1, 1980, I was appointed as the director/animal control officer by the Board of Supervisors, which I held proudly over the next 26 years, until Oct. 3, 2006.

During this time, I have had the pleasure of working with some of the most dedicated county employees as one could ever encounter. I owe a great deal of thanks to all county employees, past and present, who have assisted me so much over the years, for I am forever grateful and thankful for their assistance. It has always been my goal to administrate the Animal Control Department in the most effience way possible.

The county and I have experienced some very difficult budgets. When budget cuts were implemented, I reduced the Animal Control budget as instructed. When employee layoffs were required, they were, in fact, carried out. As always, the best interest of the county, its cities and its citizens were first and foremost in my mind to minimize any service reductions.

With employee turnover, new laws added and increased workload and population growth in the county, I have effectively and efficiently handled any and all additional demands placed upon the Animal Control Department. My devotion, loyalty and service to Animal Control, which I was entrusted to carry out, have not faltered. Unfortunately, due to some personal matters that have arisen, my attention and departure is necessary at this time.

The years of service to the County of Glenn, responding to the needs of its cities, citizens and or state agencies, in which my family and I have sacrificed weekends, vacations, holidays and special occasions over the years, are now coming to an end in my professional career.

It is my sincere belief that in order to combat these difficult times, departments and agencies must continue corroborating efforts for one common goal: service to the citizens of our county and state. I have sincerely appreciated the opportunity to work for Glenn County Animal Control.

Raymond J. Cavier

Animal Control officer
