Letter: Impact report essential for Geyser project

Why is the City of Orland not requiring and Environmental Impact Report before deciding upon the status of the proposed Crystal Geyser bottling plant?

It would seem, if there is no environmental problem foreseen with establishing the plant, that the city and Crystal Geyser would both be pushing for it to further their cause. The State Water Quality Control Board, as I understand it, also is not being asked to investigate and issue a permit. Why is it neither of these issues are being pursued?

Orland's water supply is not something with which to gamble. So far as I am concerned, without a positive EIR and Water Quality Control Board permit, the status of the proposed bottling plant is "dead in the water."

Hopefully, the mayor and City Council members will think critically about what is best for our city. If they do, I see no way they can approve this project.
