To bear or not to bear

That is the question. Of course I speak of firearms, and the right to bear them is in our Constitution so how do we solve the problem? I understand that the Supreme Court was schedules to hear the appeal on this question last Tuesday, but I doubt if they have given their report yet. Doesn't it take the Supreme Court several months to solve big problems. Whatever their decision is I doubt whether or not it will solve the problem. The powers that be have already decided that you cannot bear arms if you live in Washington, D.C. Personally I think that is a good idea.

Too many important persons, both from U.S. and other countries, walk around in that city to take a chance on someone shooting them. On the other hand, what about the rest of us? How about the hunters? Should shotguns and rifles be permitted, but not pistols? I am of the understanding that the government has already outlawed machine guns and other large destruction devices. Of course, it seems like the original rule about the right to bear arms was with the idea that U.S. citizens could protect themselves from other countries trying to take over our new little country.

U. S. citizens are very supportive of our original constitution, so who knows what the court will decide. However, there is a saying "Outlaw guns and only outlaws will have guns." Sometimes I wonder why I get myself so involved in politics, but then I think "it is MY life they are making decisions about. We should all be interested in what our politicians are doing whether they be local, state of federal government. So, how about having your city hall or supervisor's office send, fax, or E-mail you a copy of the next agenda for their particular organization? You might learn something about decisions to be made which will affect your life in the future.

The other day I caught aa program about Sadam Hussein on the Nation Public Radio local station. They spoke about the fact that Sadam had his own style of justice. He said that it was a crime was handling American money. If anyone was caught messing around with American money that person was sent to the hospital were they cut off his hand at the wrist. Just the thought runs cold chills down my back.
Here in the good old USA we can't begin to understand some of the gross and horrible things that can happen to you. For some reason it seems to me that if we don't take care of our country and its people, we will also go down the tubes. Rapes, knifings, shootings, and murder seem to be an ordinary daily happening somewhere in our Country.

But now for something with a little happier feeling. Hubert Lower from Hamilton City called me to tell me that he lived in the house next to the Witness Tree out in the Capay Area. He was a young kid at the time, but he says he remembers that at one time the County workers cut bark off of the tree to find a plaque stating the purpose of the tree in that location.

Mr. Lower thinks that the plaque could be found on the tree trunk if it was searched for about four feet from the ground. I talked to the Public Works Director in Tehama County (and by the way, that Department is in the town of Gerber) and he told me that they had no record of any markings on the tree that would make it a "bearing" tree.

Bearing trees are used as markers by the surveyors and supposedly cannot be cut down. The Tehama Public Works Director told me that so far they couldn't find any records about that particular tree, but he will keep checking and let me know if and when he discovers anything that we could bank on.

In case you have forgotten, Easter is quite early this year. In fact it is only 2 days away on Sunday. You still have a couple of days to get those Easter baskets ready with chocolate bunnies and pretty Easter eggs. Or, on the other hand, you could buy your loved one a nice present to celebrate this occasion.
