Bart Caster

• Name: Bart Caster

• Age: Just turned 54

• Family: Wife, Sherrie; and two daughters, Lauren and Erin

• City of residence: Orland

• Occupation: I'm the owner of Bart's Appliance Repair in Orland for 22 years now. Also, I've been on the Orland Volunteer Fire Department for 32 years. I'm kinda proud of that fact, if it's worth mentioning.

• Favorite part of the job: Meeting people more than anything. With the Fire Department it feels good knowing you're giving back to your community. It's important to give back to the community that you live in, if you can.

• What part of your job would you gladly give up? The long days would sometimes be nice to get rid of.

• What do you like most about Orland? It just feels like home.

• What would you like to change in Orland? I wish the City had more money to deal with things and keep them up, but that's an issue ALL cities and counties are dealing with.

• What's the closest you have been to a famous person? I stayed in a motel in Palm Springs owned by Stubby Kaye and his wife.

• Tell us about a life changing experience: Having children. There's not much more than having a family and it's been a good thing.

• If you were granted one wish, what would you wish for? World peace. Might as well go for big if you can have one wish.

• Whom do you most admire and why? My father passed away in 2000 but I'd still have to say him. The way he lived his life, provided for his family and was always there for us.

• What are your favorite places to go in the area? We take an annual trip to Ruth Lake off of Hwy. 299. It's become a tradition with a big group of us.

• What was your first job? Technically, delivering newspapers. I used to substitute for my brother's route in Medford.

• If you were a superhero, what would your power be? The power to impart wisdom

• What is something you can't live without? My family. My wife and children still talk to me (laughs); it's pretty nice to have!

• What's something about yourself that your friends might not know? That I'm a big fan of Sci-fi fiction. Mostly classics from the 40's, 50's and 60's.

• Do you have any pet peeves? The lack of civil disclosure in America.

• Describe yourself in three words? Just about average.

• Pets: A terrier mix named Jack and a Siamese named Simie.

• How do you unwind? Racquetball, volleyball and golf

• Hobbies/interests: I'm now trying to learn golf and live vicariously through my children's lives now that they're in college, but that's not really a hobby, is it?

• Where do you get your news? Orland Press-Register, Chico ER and the Internet.

• Favorite thing to do on a rainy day: Kick back, listen to the rain and read a book.

• Dream job: I'm still looking for that. I'm working my way into it, whatever it may be.

• Fondest memory: The birth of my daughters and holding them for the first time. It's just an experience you can't forget.

• Favorite book: "The Stars My Destination" by Alfred Bester

• Favorite food: Mexican food; too many good things.

• Favorite music: Cream. I'm a rock 'n' roll dinosaur. Classic rock and blues.

• If you were reincarnated as an animal, what would you be and why? Maybe a bear so I could live out in the woods and just do my own thing.

• What is your guilty pleasure? Random, unhealthy snacking is always a good thing.

• What quality in people do you most admire? Honesty and the ability to disagree agreeably.

• What was your favorite toy as a child? My bike. We rode everywhere as kids.

• Favorite superhero: Probably the Hulk.

• Favorite TV show: "The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson."

• Worst TV show: There's so many! Anything that I don't currently watch.

• Favorite movie: Any reasonable person would have to say "Citizen Kane." Barring that, I'd have to say "Casablanca."

• Worst movie ever made: Oh. "Ishtar," because I actually went to the theater to see that.

• Worst fear: Losing my family.

• Most embarrassing moment: There's so many. I live my life waiting for the next one!

• If you were a vegetable, which one would you be and why? Brussels sprouts because everyone would leave me alone.

• What would you do for a Klondike Bar? Nothing that I can think of
