Barrera recall vital for county
Dear Editor:
I was delighted to read about the recall of Glenn County Superintendent Arturo Barrera. It’s about time someone did something about this guy. Mr. Barrera has been running amuck with our children’s education long enough. I am encouraged to see that many of the dedicated and well-respected educators in this county are fully behind this recall effort.
In the article there is this quote: Barrera said, “I’m pleased to have the support of the majority of the board.”
There are five members of the county board of education. Barrera has the “support” of three of them. This “support” came only after months of badgering and belittling by Barrera and his cronies. They were worn down by the constant barrage of insults from the Barrera camp.
Near the end of last year there were several closed-door meetings with the three board members who now “support” Barrera. We can only imagine what was said at these meetings. Then at the next board meeting, these three board members, who had previously opposed Barrera at every turn, were now blindly passing all of his agenda items. Even when members of the audience pointed out that these items were contrary to the state Education Code. Fortunately, there are still two members of the board who refuse to submit to Barrera’s strong-arm tactics.
The recall of Arturo Barrera is vital to the education system of this county. Please support this recall effort in any way you can.

| I don't personally know Barrera. The results of his work is everywhere from gossip to the news papers. I haven't heard anything good about him except in the valley Mirror. The Mirror got Barrera elected with a smear campaign of false allegations that were confirmed as false by the California Department of Justice. At present GCOE news is found among articles like Glenn County most wanted, Murders, Child abuse, spousal abuse, jail abuse, pictures of bodies and any other subjects that get your attention with slime and by shock. What we never see is what is really happening at GCOE. We need to give Barrera a graceful way out and start over again. |

| When Inspector Screws was investigating GCOE he found tons of information that was proven false by the Dept. Of Justice. Marilee Johnson was one of his moles. Why didn't he find Marilee Johnsons child working for GCOE, and another in a Willows School or a daughter in law in an Orland School? Barrera has the title but she is in charge and makes almost as much money. If you question this information check it out. |

| I don't think Arturo is the problem here. It is Merilee Johnson. She comes in here from some hole in the ground and thinks she can bully everybody around. All us poor local folks here in Glenn County. That woman has never even taught in a classroom. She had two of her children in classrooms before they were even qualified to teach. She is the real culprit here. She almost makes as much money as Arturo. Arturo, do us all a faver get rid of that female dog. |

| Art, Remember what you did for money in High School? Do you remember signing the annuals when we were seniors? |

| Art, there might be some positions open working on the tomato harvester. Can you sort out the good tomatos from the bad tomatos? Come on down with proof of your citizenship or green papers. Also be prepared to take a drug test. |

| As for the election the majority didn't rule-----thats one of the problems. The thirty-seven percent that voted for Barrera aren't the majority. Education is the reason for the recall, it is led by parents who want their children educated. This isn't about me, me, me, its about my, my, my children. It looks like Barrera has made things a lot worse instead of better and Glenn County will be suffering a long time after Barrera is gone. Even the high rankers are concerned about education. |

| Tim Crews has a purpose. His purpose is to drag out of the closet all of the slimy, underhanded things that get covered up by the regular papers. Why should he regurgitate all of the same stuff that is already covered by the Press Register? Sometimes there are positive articles that Mr. Crews can bring out of the woodwork. But I find it more heroic of Tim to stand up and pursue the UGLY things that certain high rankers in the community would just as soon sweep under the rug.
As for the election, majority rules, deal with it. Maybe someone should have figured in the split vote. But then again education doesn't seem to be your priority does it? Given the chance, I have the utmost confidence that Arturro will be able to pull the GCOE out of it's temporary, Joni caused funk, and then all of you whine bags can eat your words. The focus of your complaints should be about how this is going to affect children and instead it's all about How is this going to affect me? ME, ME, ME. Well, it ain't about you! |

| Barrera was elected by a using a smear campaign, he won with thirty-seven per cent of the votes. The information used to win was so bad that the California Department of Justice determined it was false. Sixty-seven percent didn't vote for Barrera and he insulted them by being sworn at midnight so he could start firing people the next morning. The simple fact is that Barrera doesn't represent but just over a third of the voters. What has Berrera done positive in the two years he has been in office compared to the failures that we see in the paper. If he had done anything worth while The Mirror would have had it on the front page instead of trying to blame his failure on the previous administration. It looks like the sixty-three percent who didn't vote for him want him gone. |

| I guess everyone in Willows thinks that they are the ENTIRE county. Thankfully not everyone in the REST of the county is as blinded by Steve Olmos as you all are. Wake up, Arturo inherited this mess that took Joni how many years to create? Now you expect him to fix it immediately? How unrealistic can you be? Billbacks have been in the works for years and all of the supes knew about it. As usual some thought that somewhere, somehow those billbacks would just go away, well they didn't and some supes were smart enough to heed the warnings and squirrel away some revenue to cover them, Steve Olmos was one who didn't. If you all want to place your blame maybe you should look in your own schoolyard. |

| Just think, Thirty-seven percent of the voters gave our children Tim Crews and Barrera as role models. Barrera won the election based on a campaign of lies. This was confirmed by the California Department of Justice. The Glenn County Board of Education has on occasion had the Sheriff to control Barreras supporters at the Board meetings. They aren't a good examole for the class rooms. Check what I've said. |

| If it takes a Recall to get rid of Barrera a Recall is vital. He has been in office almost half his term and GCOE is in turmoil and getting worse. We need an accounting of where taxpayer money has gone. We can see where public relations are going. Its obvious this is effecting Education. |

| Rambler2, I agree with you, education isn't about politics its about students. GCOE needs another someone who doesn't have to spend his time defending himself and that every one everyone will respect. |

| RamblingRocky, We agree on a lot of things, but I don't think I want Crews or the local special interest to run education in Glenn County. I think we need someone at GCOE that the public can support. Barrera and Crews caused so much antimosity during the campaign that no one will forget and get down to business as usual. Crews is still attacking the opposition and they have been gone over a year and a half. Barrera just can't seem to get control, what ever the reason. |

| Translation. The recall is vital to the their own unions interests, but not the children. That is always the excuse for their demands.
Poor Art, he spent half his life trying to get into that position.
TIm Crews is hated by the local yokals who run this county. They call his paper the Valley Smear. Look what they have done to him p
repeatedlu over the years. For those who don't know, Glenn County Sups went down to visit this newspaper's owners and asked, I believe this is correct to have him removed as manageing editor. That is when he started his own newspaper. It is hilarious how people in Glenn County think they are conservatives when this county has more government, more government worker union's and other political government influence, more special interest influence, more political corruption, more drugs, more government programs, more than most area. You have to go through guards and metal detectors just to talk to someone who works for the county. This is not America, it is the Marxist State of East Germany 1952. Glenn County is one big batian of political corruption, Too bad the same families have run it since I can remember. |

| what a mucky, mucky mess thirty-some-odd percentage of voters got local education into by letting Tim Crews and a nest of GCOE vipers do their thinking for them. |
